There is a boom about Ayurvedic Spa and Wellness Centers as more and more people are now taking a U-Turn to the age-old healing techniques. In ancient time, the holistic healers always used different herbs for local applications and intake to help curing various health ailments. The same system is now looked as safest, affordable and effective tools to alleviate signs and symptoms of the diseases. Beware of Ayurvedic spa is written in order to save your life, money and body!
It is not a secret anymore that modern medicines and contemporary techniques in medical science may come with faster results but then also bring unwanted, undesired side effects, especially when used for a longer duration. The kidneys, liver and heart are the main targets of modern medicines and that is why, even health care providers prefer to go for natural treatments that comprise of herbs or herbal extracts, holy exercises (such as yoga and Pranayama), healthy lifestyle and moderated dietary habit.
Unfortunately, you may come across innumerable Ayurvedic Resorts and Ayurvedic Spas that offer various therapies for several health diseases and the number is large enough to choose from. An authentic Ayurvedic Wellness Center, Ayurvedic Spa or Ayurvedic Resort seems to be a perplexing task, especially for the foreigners.
Southeast Asia –the hub for Ayurvedic centers
Though the science of Ayurveda has drawn everybody’s attention, the people who get into this are more businesspersons than the ones who are actually interested in treating the people. The business of Ayurvedic therapies has reached millions of Dollars. Across the world, especially western countries are so strict in letting all such so called health resorts open and that is why, certain part of the world, especially Southeast Asian countries are the epicenter for Ayurvedic resorts and Ayurvedic spas.
Malaysia, Singapore, India, Sri-Lanka, Maldives, Thailand and Mauritius are few of the places where Ayurvedic resorts and Ayurvedic spas boom. Unfortunately the standards set by local governments are hardly followed as the numbers of such baloney centers are so large that it becomes difficult for the health board to visit individually and control it.
There have been many complaints lodged against fraudulent Ayurvedic centers and Ayurvedic spas as the patients treated there finally ended up in severe complications. Recently, a TV actress had complained about getting her acne and pimples worse than ever before against Ayurvedic treatment for her cosmetic problems.
Panchakarma –a big word, generally misunderstood
Panchakarma or panchkarma, now, is not a word that is the subject of PhD thesis! The word has become so common (all thanks to the media!) that even beauty salon runners and aestheticians have started offering various body cleansing therapies under the name of ‘Ayurvedic Panchakarma’.
Basically, Panchakarma is difficult to perform. It requires an utmost Ayurvedic physician’s supervision with super-strict regimen to follow. Most of the time, one or the other way, patients fail to eligible for Ayurvedic Panchakarma and that is unknown to most of the public! Patients suffering from diabetes, hypertension, obesity, lean-body, too hairy, too fair, too dark etc are not suitable for a typical Panchakarma.
The Panchakarma comprises of five purification therapies viz; medicine induced vomiting (emesis), medicine induced diarrhea (purgation), enema (medicine induced through the anus), bloodletting (using instruments or leeches) and the nasal pouring. Other than this, everything performed under the name of Panchakarma is just a purvakarma (pre-procedure to typical Panchakarma).
The greatest misunderstanding about Panchakarma is what people think that body massage, shirodhara (forehead pouring), steam bath etc come under Panchakarma, which is certainly not a truth! Beware of Ayurvedic Spa that has such labeling.
The price charged for such so called Panchakarma is high, very high but most of the customers are tourists (especially in the state of Kerala, India) who do not exactly find a real price for the therapy done! For them, it is all new and for the vendors, local businesspersons; it is an advantage of the higher currency!
Take Care Before you think of Ayurvedic Spa:-
· Almost all the Ayurvedic spa or Ayurvedic centers offering certificates are not approved by the local government.
· Massage, shirodhara (forehead pouring) and any other therapies shown on beautiful hoardings and glow-sign boards are NOT Ayurvedic Panchakarma.
· Most of the time, people fail being eligible for the Panchakarma
· Consult Ayurvedic expert, registered with local government health board
· Compare the charges and apply your brain
· A real Ayurvedic Panchakarma center will never have cross-massaging facilities (no females do massage to males), if you look for this, you better try some unisex salons and spas. They are special but notorious.
